1. If you zoom into a particular column of text, you can double tap the lower right and upper right areas of the screen to scroll up and down. Takes a little practice.

2. Do you like to browse MobileSafari while in bed or on a couch? I know I do! If you’re like me, then you like to read while lying on your side. This poses a problem with the iPhone. Everytime you lie on your side, the accelorometers kick in and flip the screen sideways. The solution? The iPhone Safari can’t rotate upside down, so go into Landscape mode then hold the phone upside down.

3. I recently bought the INCASE Rubber Case for my iPhone. I read of several complaints at MacRumors, even one from Brian Lam of Gizmodo regarding a couple of flaws with the case. After repeated use, the case loosens allowing small debris to infiltrate and scratch the metal bezel. So forget that! Here is another problem I noticed about the case, which I don’t think a lot of case makers have addressed with the iPhone. What’s the best area to use for scrolling a page? I discovered that the very edge of the multi-touch screen to be the most reliable scroll area. Just slide your finger along the very edge, where your finger is half-off the screen. One advantage is that this gives you more screen real estate since your big finger isn’t covering half the screen while you read. So what does this have to do with the Rubber Case? The thick case frames the screen snugly, which impedes you from using the edge scrolling technique.

4. When in google you don’t have to hit the spacebar to accept an auto-correction before hitting Search. Just hit the google button and the auto-correction automagically appears.
5. This is a great tip for people who have a hard time zooming in on the Safari App without clicking on a link accidentally. Just use 2 fingers to tap the area instead of one. Via HowardForums.
6. Here’s a simple tip for Google Maps. Most people know you can zoom in by double tapping. What about zooming out? Just hold one finger to the screen, and double tap with the second finger.
7. One my favorite features in MobileSafari is when a page opens in a new window. The lack of a contextual click won’t stop you though. Just use this bookmarklet. Click on it whenever you’re in a page that has links you want to open as “_blank”. It uses javascript to turn all the links on the page into “open as a new tab”.
8. I usually use two thumbs to type on my iPhone. Instead of using the bottom part of the thumb though, I use the outside corner where it almost touches the fingernail. I’ve found that his improves accuracy, since it’s a smaller surface area.
